RE: Lifting a 5ver?

OK vehicle code title 47 chapter 14 says 13 and 1/2 feet max height anywhere in the state. Anything above 13' 6" will need a permit/escorted Well in California it is 14 feet. I dont see why it would be lower anywhere else since we have interstate highways here too. 35250VC-No vehicle shall exceed a height of 14 feet measured from the surface on which the vehicle stands, except that a double deck bus may not exceed a height of 14 feet 3 inches. Any vehicle or load which exceeds 13 feet 6 inches shall only be operated on those highways deemed safe by the owner of the vehicle. So there is some truth to the 13 foot 6 inch measurement as posted, but it is up to the driver to check his route. There are books avaliable at truck stops for this purpose. No escort of permit needed, at least not here in California. So I guess we are both right. ;)

RE: Lifting a 5ver?

13 feet and 6 inches that is federal height for interstates. hope this helps. Wrong. Max height is 14 feet without a permit. Check the Vehicle Code my friend.

RE: Packing Raptor 3612

How about a Yamaha golf cart with folding rear seat and detatched roof, a KTM 450, Kawasaki 110, and a Honda 50? In a ten foot garage Raptor. I am confident I could substitue a second full size bike for the 50, when the time comes.

RE: Fumoto Engine Oil Drain Valve

I have had one on my powerstroke for six years. Works great, but I always wonder if I am flushing all the debris out of the pan, since the fumoto valvle drain hole is so small.

RE: Fullerton - Raptor Sighting Pulling Doubles on Gilbert

Bkirk, Are you going to fab the hitch yourself or have someone do it? If you are going to pay for it to be done, you might check out Hitchcrafters in Costa Mesa, on Fairview. Owned by two brothers, now about 40, who have been doing hitch work since they were in high school. Good people, used them twice. If they cannot do it, either it cannot be done or they think it is unsafe.

RE: diesel engine respond

I think all the 6.0 bashing is baesd on the service history of the engine, which is poor by most reports. Personally, I would not own one. I think even the good ones are going to be trouble prone in the future. I have a 7.3L Powerstroke. A fine engine. However, it is mated to the awful 4R100 transmission. Please talk all the smack you want about my tranny. I wont get offended. Too bad they never offered a 7.3/5R100 combo.

RE: Buy a 5th wheel trlr or a travel trlr????

Fiver all the way. Much easier to hook up, better, stronger hitch, and tows better. If you had a fiver before, you would be dissapointed with towing a TT, I think.

RE: Prodigy failure on its first trip

Could also be you had the problem all along and the older model controller had no way to "tell" you about it.

RE: WW side lights

THere is a guy on glamisdunes.com called "kbrowncustoms" who sells replacement hid lites for the exterior of WWs, as well as most everything else. I am thinking about hitting him up for a few sets for my various toys.

RE: New Ragen Toy Hauler - Towing Help

To the OP: Ignore 90% of the replies to this thread. Load your truck and trailer, and go weigh all axles. Then post back. Until you know your weights, there is absolutely no sense tossing and turning all night long when you should be sleeping wondering "if you have enough truck." Because the bottom line is, without a weight slip no one knows. You may wind up having to upgrade your tires and maybe add some airbags, but at this point it is too early to tell.

RE: Geo Method Hybrid

Well my black tank is full of 30 gallons of water, half gallon of bleach, Tide, and Calgon. When I get to the campground that tank should be clean enough to drink from. Not that I will though.

RE: Fire Pit

I thought I also read somewhere to drill a few small holes in the rim around the top to drain out the sand that is in there to balance the tub in the washer. I forget the exact reason why having the sand in there was supposedly hazardous.

RE: Hitch came loose...

It sounds like the pins that mount the hitch to the hitch rails were inserted, but not clipped in. Personally, I always put zip ties or safety wire on the clips after I put them on the pins. I do the same with a pull hitch. I dont use locking hitch pins, I do not trust the lock to not fail while towing.

RE: GCVWR??

Anyone creating an unsafe condition and harms me or my family will be addressed to the maximum of the law. Since GCVWR is not law, you have no law to address anyone with.

RE: Weekend Warrior's Factory Clearance - 50% off WW and Ragen

Yeah, the 50% off means 50% off quality This goes back to kindergarten, where they teach you if you dont have anything nice to say, dont say anything. If you think WWs are junk, dont buy one. In the meantime, zip it. Easy there young fella... It's a joke, no more, no less... Well now that I know this "inside" info, I will say I am sorry for the above.

RE: Breakaway Switch Activation

I dont think the brakes would lock at highway speed if the break away activated. When you activate the manual trailer brake switch on your controler at highway speed what happens? You slow down, but it does not lock up. I also think that if you stopped the rig with the trailer brakes only from highway speed the brakes would overheat fairly quickly and not lock up even after you slowed signifigantly. Trailer brakes are strong, but they are not the best braking system on the road.

RE: Weekend Warrior's Factory Clearance - 50% off WW and Ragen

I am nuetral on whether WW is a good trailer or not. However, I bet something like a Full Throttle 40+5 is going to be a hot item to have, mainly because it is the biggest hauler on the market. For someone with a sand car and a few quads/bikes there is no substitute.

RE: waxing

Funny, taking a break from waxing mine right now. I am using Meguires "Flagship" marine wax. Not only is this stuff meant for fiberglass/gelcoat, but it is simply the best wax I have ever used. I have been using it for about a year. It holds up well (being a marine wax it had better), and goes on and off really easy. I actually started using it on my truck, since it works so well. I am a "waxer." I have been waxing everything I own for the past 25 years. I have used most everything out there, from Rain Dance, to Tech Wax, "Ice" (which I did not like, too hard to buff out), NuFinish, and everything else between at one time or another. You need to be careful what you put on gelcoat, some waxes can/will damage it. I cant say enough good about the Flagship Marine wax. Love this stuff. Do you use the paste or liquid Flagship? Just got done. Liquid. It is the only way I have seen it. Comes in a black bottle. If the auto parts store does not have it might have to go to a boat shop. I got mine at Kragen.
